Add AppleTV to Homekit

I’m unable to add my AppleTV’s to HomeKit. I’ve tried placing my iPhone next to them and I see they’re listed in iCloud but I can’t add them to HomeKit.

As soon as you sign into iCloud + set up AirPlay and HomeKit on your Apple TV, it will be added to the Home App. This needs to be the same iCloud account you’re using for Home. It will ask you to bring the iPhone close - make sure the iPhone is unlocked

It’s possible it’s just not displaying in the Home App - close the home app and restart your device to see if it refreshes.

If it’s still not setting up, go into user accounts on the Apple TV- sign out of iCloud - Restart the Apple TV in Settings - System - Restart. Once restarted sign back in. You will be prompted to set up HomeKit again.

Rebooting the wifi might also help. If using wifi, it all needs to be on the same network.

If HomeKit and the Apple TV box use the same Apple ID account for iCloud services, then it would be automatically recognized and set up as a HomeKit home hub. They can’t connect with different accounts for iCloud services.

Apple TV itself is not really a HomeKit accessory for scenes and automations, although a few actions may be possible.

None of my AppleTVs show up in the Home app. Aren’t they supposed to?

Apple TV (4th generation or later) is supposed to show up automatically in the Home app on iPhone or iPad, even without holding your iPhone near it, when it is already linked through the Apple ID account.

Verify that you have already set up a named home with named rooms in the Home app on iPhone.

As a discovery test, see what it says on Apple TV in Settings﹥AirPlay and HomeKit﹥[ʜᴏᴍᴇᴋɪᴛ] Room﹥“room name” and Settings﹥AirPlay and HomeKit﹥[ʜᴏᴍᴇ ʜᴜʙ] “home name”﹥Connected|Disabled
