You have an iPhone 14 Pro and it is still covered under Apple's 1YR Limited Warranty (US). Take advantage of it and have your iPhone examined at the Apple Store or at an Authorized Service Center for further diagnosis and a resolution.

Yesterday I was at one of the AppleStores (Germany) with that issue. They saw it and did some inspections and stuff. After half an hour they decided to send it to the back support to change the entire back (with bezel and stuff). I should get it back within the next week. There is a 75% chance they will do it for free, since the support staff guy at the Genius Bar applied the 2 year customer law warranty of electronic parts in Germany.
See the attached costs estimate (in german).
If they repair it for free, I can give you the case number so you can head up to the Apple Store and show them this case, so they hopefully recognize that this is an production issue, not a cosmetic one.
Mine has been in a case since purchase. I went to the Genius Bar (as advised by online chat) but was told it was my fault-user damage.
I asked how I was meant to stop that happening as it had been in a case since purchase. Apparently I have the wrong case ?!? (It’s one for this phone) i was told it would cost nearly £600 to repair-no thanks. really disappointed as I was basically blamed even though I pointed out it isn’t just me.
From what others have said in the past, Apple considers this cosmetic and not covered by warranty. Let us know what your experience is after visiting and Apple store; we'd all like to know what you find out.
Apple does not cover cosmetic flaws or damage. Take the phone into an Apple Store if you need more confirmation.
the warranty even says that cosmetic damage is not covered EXCEPT if it‘s caused by a defect from the manufacturer. And bad coating would be the manufacturers fault in my opinion. But apple will still not cover rhis because the don‘t give a f. They will only cover it if there‘s a recall. So essentially we‘re out of luck. You would have to prove that the coating is inadequate but how could you do that?
I've bought my Space Black 14 Pro MAX in November 2022 and immediately put it in a case. After a month I noticed a very small chip near a top speaker. Now it has a few of them along the edge, which is annoying since I'm extremely careful with my phone. It's never in a same pocket with something else and I'm taking it out of the case every few days and cleaning it with microfiber cloth. I have a 4.5 years old XS MAX without even a spot, this one is scuffed after 5 months of babying. This is a reprise of Jet Black.
This is a ‘fit for purpose’ issue. My phone is my 7th iphone and I always put them straight into a case on day 1. And no previous phone has lost paint like this. The paint job is clearly just not fit for purpose, and fitness for purpose has a 6-year limitation period, far longer than the one-year warranty.
This cheap corner-cutting by Apple should be the subject of a class action. And I say that as a fan and from a position of overall ‘love’. A shoddy underperforming technical paint coating like this should never be allowed to happen again.
Do call Apple support and have it escalated - shouldn’t be chipping like this.
Not the answer that you are looking for, but Apple will deem this to be cosmetic damage and point out that cosmetic damage is not covered under AppleCare.
I bought the iPhone 14 Pro in space black 5 days ago & I am LIVID. When I purchased this phone, I was never made aware about needing a camera lens protector… The camera lens that protrudes significantly outwards will NOT be protected just with a phone case. I accidentally dropped my phone today while heading to work and when I spoke to an Apple advisor via chat, I was told that the scratched paint on the outer edge of my camera lens was considered physical damage (and covered through Apple Care.) I visited my local Apple Store same day & I was told that there was nothing they could do since it was a "cosmetic issue." To make matters worse, I was told that there was no options for replacement since my "cosmetic issue" doesn’t affect the overall function of my phone… I am very upset that I spent all of this money for a phone & coverage just to have nothing resolved. I’ve had this same exact issue with my iPhone 12. Terrible paint quality.
Apple is not going to cover any type of warranty when it comes to paint because that is a cosmetic issue . unfortunately I’m having the same problem with my iPhone 14 Pro Max the paint is starting to peel in certain areas and I had it less than six months and in the case since day one if you think about it the iPhone 15 is also having problems with discoloration as well, if you’re gonna spend this much on the phone, you would think that the phone would stand up to the tester time. Obviously it does not. I was an android user for a long time just recently went over the iPhone. I’m starting to think about going back to android .
I am also facing colour chipping from camera border rings in iPhone 14. This is really unexpected when you pay big sum.
Even if this issue is there, there is no support or coverage in warranty to repair or replace the unit.
Only thing is that one should never wipe/rub/clean any exposed coloured space or frame (which is not covered by glass) with any liquid cleaner or spirits or rough clothes. For cleaning one must use only microfibre or soft clothes.
This is really a BIG upset factor and apple must cover decolorisation under warranty which happened without use of any chemicals or rough materials.
Give apple support a call and have them escalate it - the more people that do the better.
I’m still waiting on a response after being passed onto engineers.
Apple will not cover this.
