Apple watch 4/os 9.2 iphone 12/ ios 16.1.1 wake screen not working

So I found where they moved the wake screen in display/brightness>wake on wrist raise ON

That setting turns on in both the watch app and the watch settings on the watch.

I've restarted both twice. I tried shutting off wake on wrist rise and then restarting both and then turning on the setting. Complete fail.

Dial crown works and tap screen works but this wrist raise nothing happens started two days ago.

Anyone know what might be going on? Has anyone else had this problem?

I have auto-update turned on in both devices.

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities Mindzman,

If your Apple Watch doesn't wake when you raise your wrist, check to make sure that theatre mode isn't enabled, which will temporarily disable the feature: Use Control Center on Apple Watch

Additionally, make sure you have your Apple Watch configured for the correct wrist and orientation. Change language and orientation on Apple Watch

That was it. I am getting annoyed that Apple seems to move things and hide things all the time but then I am one of those very old dogs who think cellphones are portable telephones!

Apple watch is totally Dick Tracy.
