iMac 9.0.8 Darwin

Hello,

Hi, I got an iMac as a donation for our school. It is in a Darwin 9.0.8 version. Version 10.5.8.

I have tried everything I can to upgrade it.

From Lion. From Elcapitan etc..

Without success.

I always get this error : com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error 1

I am lost.

Is it really possible to upgrade?

Why is there so little procedure quoted by Apple,?

All the support is hidden, badly organized.

Any ideas?

Hello,

as I could not find any other solution, I looked for a logical solution.

Under Windows, I formatted a key, then I converted the partition to GPT format under DISKPART.

I used then the software POWER ISO ( shareware )

to create a USB BOOTABLE under ISO SNOW MacosX 10.6

then reboot while remaining pressed on the key ALT.

I started on the USB key, the installation is currently in progress.

Maybe not the best solution, but it's the one that seemed the most logical.

You should not use a Windows utility to create a macOS bootable installer. Doing so isn't using an Apple approved method, and the third-party Windows utility could inject malware into the installer.

After the Mac is done installing OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, create an OS X El Capitan bootable installer:

Create a bootable installer for macOS - Apple Support.

Use it to erase your startup disk, and reinstall OS X.

With due respect the computer is very close to 20 years old so there not going to be any support for it. It has zero value other than as a curiosity. Please start it, and click the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and then click "About this Mac". Once you have that please list all the information listed in "About this Mac." Once we know what you have exactly then we can offer some direction.

Welcome!

Unfortunately, any iMac using Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 would be quite an old model (earlier than 2009), and support will be extremely limited for an old product.

To see if the Mac can be upgraded and have any use, please navigate to the Apple menu  (top left) > About This Mac, then choose "System Profiler" (it may be "More Info" or "System Information"). From there, find the serial number of the Mac and enter it here: Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support.

Please let us know what the tool indicates the exact year and model is.
