uploading files

I upload a picture from an email to my iMac. The file shows in the assigned folder but it's greyed out and I am unable to open it.

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

Hi shortlitehouse,

We recommend you try the steps in the link below since the file you'll like to open is inaccessible due to it being grayed out.

If you can’t access a document, a folder, or an app on Mac - Apple Support

Complete the steps in the section below to perform the recommended troubleshooting steps via the link above.

If you can’t use a document, a folder, or an app that you need, you may have to change the permission settings for that item.

*If you share your Mac with other users, consult with the administrator of your Mac or network. An administrator can control permissions for individual users on a single Mac. On a computer network, an administrator may also be able to control user access to apps, folders, servers, and other resources.

*If you are the only user of your Mac, see Change permissions for files, folders, or disks.

We recommend the steps above because they will show you what to do if you can’t access a document or a folder on your Mac.

Please let us know the outcome after giving the above steps a try.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!
