iPhone 12 Just started dumping my home wifi when not in use

My iPhone 12 keeps losing Wi-Fi. I have the correct settings. I have turned my phone off and on. I restarted the modem. I keep losing the Wi-Fi only on my phone, not my MacBook, not my wife's iPhone 8+, not on her iPad, AND it just started this a few weeks ago after working just fine for almost a year and a half. I've tried everything but a total factory reset (I think that erases everything on my phone). Totally confusing. Help.

Hey Jayhawks85,

Before taking it in for service, have you reset the network settings? This can help if there's some data saved that's causing the disconnection. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before, so be sure you have your passwords handy before resetting.

When you're ready, tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Those steps can be found in the following guide, just in case: If your iPhone or iPad won't connect to a Wi-Fi network - Apple Support

If the behavior continues after that reset, we encourage you to reach out to Apple Support to look into this with you more. Here's that link to reach them, just in case: Contact - Official Apple Support

Take care!

Hello Jayhawks85,

It sounds as though you're having an issue staying connected to your home Wi-Fi network on your iPhone.

Is this resolved by disabling Wi-Fi Assist? Learn how to test this here: About Wi-Fi Assist

About Wi-Fi Assist

With iOS 9 and later, you can use Wi-Fi Assist to automatically switch to cellular when you have a poor Wi-Fi connection.

How Wi-Fi Assist works

With Wi-Fi Assist, you can stay connected to the Internet even if you have a poor Wi-Fi connection. For example, if you're using Safari with a poor Wi-Fi connection and a webpage doesn't load, Wi-Fi Assist will activate and automatically switch to cellular so that the webpage continues to load. You can use Wi-Fi Assist with most apps like Safari, Apple Music, Mail, Maps, and more.

When Wi-Fi Assist is activated, you'll see the cellular data icon in the status bar on your device.
Because you'll stay connected to the Internet over cellular when you have a poor Wi-Fi connection, you might use more cellular data. For most users, this should only be a small percentage higher than previous usage. If you have questions about your data usage, learn more about managing your cellular data or contact Apple Support.

You can use Wi-Fi Assist with any iOS device with iOS 9 or later, except for these models: iPhone 4s, iPad 2 Wi-Fi+Cellular, iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi+Cellular, and iPad mini (1st generation) Wi-Fi+Cellular.

Turn Wi-Fi Assist on or off

Wi-Fi Assist is on by default. If you don't want your iOS device to stay connected to the Internet when you have a poor Wi-Fi connection, you can disable Wi-Fi Assist. Go to Settings > Cellular or Settings > Mobile Data. Then scroll down and tap the slider for Wi-Fi Assist.

Learn more

- Wi-Fi Assist won't automatically switch to cellular if you're data roaming.

- Wi-Fi Assist only works when you have apps running in the foreground and doesn't activate with background downloading of content.

- Wi-Fi Assist doesn’t activate with some third-party apps that stream audio or video, or download attachments, like an email app, as they might use large amounts of data.

Disabling Wi-Fi Assist from enabling, may help us to isolate the issue.

If that doesn't resolve your issue, then it would be best to contact Apple Support directly: Contact Apple Support They'll need to take it from here.

Wishing you well, take care.

Thanks Tammy! I did try that. Still missbehaving. Really strange. Have had it for a year and a half and it just started doing this recently. I use my phone to set our thermostat and to adjust my sleep number bed and as of a few weeks ago I have to coax it back onto wifi before I can to things I'd been doing with just opening the app and making adjustments. Much appreciated.
