I just recently got an iPad (first time) and when I send messages i receive and text from an email. I don’t have a phone so my iPad is replacing it for now and I need to be able to use a phone number for verifying, school, etc.
Ipads can’t send sms on their own they lack the voice/sms cellular hardware, if a cellular iPad they only have the cellular data hardware, with an iPhone with the same appleID the phone can do it on the iPads behalf though
