You could also install the free WordService app from the Mac App Store which adds additional services to your Mac (during the download from the Mac App Store). Among these is Sort Lines Ascending which you would need to activate in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services > Text > WordService: Sort Lines Ascending.
Then, you can select your list of text in TextEdit, or any other text based application, and from application menu > Services submenu, choose WordService: Sort Lines Ascending. The sort is instantaneous and replaces the original list with the sorted content.

I use BBEdit or LibreOffice (calc) to sort lines.
You drag them into place. Or rather, I should have said: copy and paste where you want it.
