I have a 12.9 iPad Pro M1 series and are an external thunderbolt four hub that was working perfectly fine seamlessly with all the things, the external hard drive, the monitor in fact, I had multiple monitors hooked up at one point everything was great I updated to 16.3.1 yesterday and since then I have had zero luck and stocks my monitor isn’t even get recognized whether it’s going through the hub or going straight through the device. There is definitely an issue with this update. Something has happened inside to remove the display port drivers or it’s done something wacky with the listing of the scripts, either way, this is a serious issue that Apple definitely needs to focus on and correct ASAP. I’ve used the HDMI adapter as well and it’s still not connecting. My stage manager never even comes up, so I really do think it has something to do with the DisplayPort drivers themselves, something must’ve been relocated or deleted or written over in some capacity, so Apple please get it together together and get a fix out, please 🙏 OK

Got this issue after updating to 16.3.1, Got an iPad Pro M2, it does detect the monitor as it shows in the display settings but its not displaying anything on my monitor. Tried the same cable on my laptop and it works perfectly fine. Did the force restart, turn off and on the iPad and the monitor, tried another cable thru an adapter and then HDMI to the monitor still no luck. Ive noticed that my mouse cursor extends from my iPad screen so this means it goes to the monitor but its just not displaying anything. Could have been the latest OS update???

Same problem as mentioned above (the IPad shows mirroring but nothing on the monitor, and taken all steps stipulated above as well). I tried tech support but was told to contact the developer or try a beta option (none available). I purposely bought the M1 Ipad for the external display capability and seemed to be working fine on IOS 16.2. Please work on the bug issues.

Thank you

Hello damilare225,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Are these the steps you followed to connect a display:

"Connect your iPad if it has a USB-C or Thunderbolt / USB 4 connector

On a model with a USB-C or a Thunderbolt / USB 4 connector, you may be able to connect iPad to a USB or Thunderbolt 3 port on the display.

If the charging cable that came with your iPad isn’t compatible with the port on your display, TV, or projector, do the following:

  1. Plug a USB-C Display AV Adapter or USB-C VGA Multi-port Adapter into the charging port on iPad.
  2. Connect an HDMI or VGA cable to the adapter.
  3. Connect the other end of the HDMI or VGA cable to the display, TV, or projector.
  4. If necessary, switch to the correct video source on the display, TV, or projector. If you need help, use the display’s manual.
  5. If the display doesn’t turn on when you connect it to iPad, unplug it from iPad, then plug it back in. If that doesn’t work, unplug the display from its power source, then plug it in again.

See the Apple Support article Charge and connect with the USB-C port on iPad Pro."

More details can be found here: Connect iPad to a display with a cable

If so, can you provide a few more details? What happens when you try to connect an external display? Have you tested with another adapter? Have you tested with another display? Also, have you ever been able to connect your iPad to an external display previously?

Cheers!

I had this same issue after the 16.3 update. After a year of troubleshooting and no fix I opted to try for a different monitor. I have a theory that iPad OS began behaving differently with monitors with refresh rates between 60hz and 120hz. The monitor I was initially using refreshed at 75hz. I haven’t tested with other monitors in between. However, my current monitor, as well as other monitors that have allowed me to extend the iPad display since the 16.3 update run at 60hz. Nothing confirmed, just a theory.

Peace, love, unity and having fun!
