I have a 12.9 iPad Pro M1 series and are an external thunderbolt four hub that was working perfectly fine seamlessly with all the things, the external hard drive, the monitor in fact, I had multiple monitors hooked up at one point everything was great I updated to 16.3.1 yesterday and since then I have had zero luck and stocks my monitor isn’t even get recognized whether it’s going through the hub or going straight through the device. There is definitely an issue with this update. Something has happened inside to remove the display port drivers or it’s done something wacky with the listing of the scripts, either way, this is a serious issue that Apple definitely needs to focus on and correct ASAP. I’ve used the HDMI adapter as well and it’s still not connecting. My stage manager never even comes up, so I really do think it has something to do with the DisplayPort drivers themselves, something must’ve been relocated or deleted or written over in some capacity, so Apple please get it together together and get a fix out, please 🙏 OK

My iPad Pro 11” M1, identifies the external display when connected to the dongle but then refuses to mirror or extend and disconnects from the external display.
The same dongle works brilliantly on my MacBook Pro.
I found the solution.
plug in a a USB 3.0 device(with a external hard drive or flash drive) first, then plug in your dongle to your iPad Pro M1. I tested it, and it works!
Got this issue after updating to 16.3.1, Got an iPad Pro M2, it does detect the monitor as it shows in the display settings but its not displaying anything on my monitor. Tried the same cable on my laptop and it works perfectly fine. Did the force restart, turn off and on the iPad and the monitor, tried another cable thru an adapter and then HDMI to the monitor still no luck. Ive noticed that my mouse cursor extends from my iPad screen so this means it goes to the monitor but its just not displaying anything. Could have been the latest OS update???
Same problem as mentioned above (the IPad shows mirroring but nothing on the monitor, and taken all steps stipulated above as well). I tried tech support but was told to contact the developer or try a beta option (none available). I purposely bought the M1 Ipad for the external display capability and seemed to be working fine on IOS 16.2. Please work on the bug issues.
Thank you
Same issue here. iPad Pro M2 11, everything worked fine with DP or HDMI or USBC to external monitor via USBC hub. Failed after updating to 16.3.1. Cannot defect an external display via DP or HDMI at all since then. Please fix the bug ASAP
Hi,
I have iPad Pro 12.9 and today I have updated the system to 16.3
I followed the steps mention and followed the steps of every YouTube video.
I connected it to mouse and keyboard and with stage manager on but still not working!
he doesn’t want to extend the screen he only mirror it!
No projector display with IOS 16.3 from iPad 7th generation. Have been using this iPad for 3 years connected to a golf simulator projector with a lightning to HDMI connector. No longer works with IOS 16.3 update. Will still work with an older iPad using IOS 9.6.3
Hello damilare225,
Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Are these the steps you followed to connect a display:
"Connect your iPad if it has a USB-C or Thunderbolt / USB 4 connector
On a model with a USB-C or a Thunderbolt / USB 4 connector, you may be able to connect iPad to a USB or Thunderbolt 3 port on the display.
If the charging cable that came with your iPad isn’t compatible with the port on your display, TV, or projector, do the following:
See the Apple Support article Charge and connect with the USB-C port on iPad Pro."
More details can be found here: Connect iPad to a display with a cable
If so, can you provide a few more details? What happens when you try to connect an external display? Have you tested with another adapter? Have you tested with another display? Also, have you ever been able to connect your iPad to an external display previously?
Cheers!
I had this same issue after the 16.3 update. After a year of troubleshooting and no fix I opted to try for a different monitor. I have a theory that iPad OS began behaving differently with monitors with refresh rates between 60hz and 120hz. The monitor I was initially using refreshed at 75hz. I haven’t tested with other monitors in between. However, my current monitor, as well as other monitors that have allowed me to extend the iPad display since the 16.3 update run at 60hz. Nothing confirmed, just a theory.
Peace, love, unity and having fun!

Same issue here. My ipad 11 inch M1, on 16.3.1 and I just purchased a type c hub and the ipad isn’t even detecting the monitor connected via hdmi on the hub.
Have you found any way to make this work?
I was having the same issue until Os 16.3.1 came out. Then I reconnected my display and was greeted by the stage manager splash screen, and it projected my display as an external monitor. Thanks for listening to us apple!
It seems to be an OS problem, started with the update to 16.3.1. I have an instructor who had it working perfectly before the update.
You can try rebooting the iPad while it's connected. That's the current fix for Mac laptops where the image flashes.
