Noise cancelling headphones depend on a good seal of your ear canal to help block out external noise.

You are probably getting a better seal with the medium size.

Think I misread the Post. Seems to me as if the OP want to avoid noise cancellation. Not make noise be cancelled.

Ear Tips Cancelling Noise:

No. It would not cancel noise. That is not the way Apple created these. So, purchase them from Apple, and there would be no issue. As for third-party ear tips, that may be a different story.
