After upgrading to Ventura 13.1 from Monterey Crucial X6 4TB will no longer mount on MacBook Pro M1 Max
What's going on!
- I successfully mounted the drive on the MacBook before updating from macOS Monterey 12.5 to Ventura 13.1.
- I can still mount the drive on an iMac 3.5 GHz quad-core Intel core I-5 running macOS Monterey 12.5.
So we know drive the hardware is fine. The data is not corrupt.
Research tells me that erasing the drive the updating to APFS does not solve the mounting problem.
There are even reports about read and write speed impacts to external SSD ExFAT drives.
There are also posts that Ventura 13.1 revised the user interface for being able to format to ExFAT so its likely that support for ExFAT has been impacted by Ventura 13.1 without warning or consideration for the users.
I believe the problem is Ventura 13.1 is no longer solidly working with external SSD ExFAT drives (formatted as ExFAT by Crucial).
This is a serious assault on user confidence in macOS updates. I believe Ventura 13.1 needs to be patched really quickly.
I bought this drive because of its form factor and performance. I don't want to retire it to my 7 year old iMac that can never be upgraded.
