Mail - view folder in Find

When I use the search function in Mail it does not display the mail folder in which it was found. I try and keep my inbox empty by using many folders. Am I missing a display option in View?

My work-around is to mark the email of interest (say to Unread) and then search using that search term in the Unread smart mailbox, and up it comes ...

Thanks for the prompt reply Leroy. I'm afraid I didn't explain it very well, so here's some screen shots. I do wonder if I'm making a simple mistake here. Anyway,
Image 1 - search 'All Mailboxes' for emails from an Apple email address.
Image 2 - Make the email of interest 'Unread'
Image 3 - Now search just the 'Unread mail box' for the email of interest - same Apple address.
Now the mailbox where the email is to be found appears.
I hope this makes it clearer.
Thanks, John

I would from Mail>View> uncheck the" Use Column Layout" and compare your results, in this contemporary Mail view

Never had an issue there:

Well I never heard this issue before...

Did you try rebuild the "Spotlight" index(?) this is fairly rapid first step, and compare your results.

There is a rebuild on a mailbox by mail box feature, this can take quite a bit of time depending.

Thanks Leroy - I should have read the fine manual ...

  1. In the Mail app on your Mac, choose View > Use Column Layout (a tick indicates the layout is in use).
  2. Do any of the following:
    • Change which columns are visible: Control-click a column header, then choose an attribute, such as Muted. The Conversation, Status and Subject columns are always shown.

Bit of a newbie error, but many thanks for your time, helpfulness and prompt responses.
