iPad stops open apps and starts opening quick action menu instead

My iPad seems to work fine for a while (days, sometimes only hours) and then it stops opening the apps. While before I could touch and open apps, now when I touch an icon it opens the quick action menu instead. There is no way of going back to normal operation except for rebooting it. This is an iPad pro 12.9 6th generation.


Any idea on how to fix that?

Hi, I have this same problem, and I have been browsing responses to this same problem - no definitive response. I initially thought this was a bug, it happened after I updated to the iPados before 16. I thought by updating to 16 and now to 16.3 and even buying a new ipad should help. But it still happens. It might be a bug. If that were the case, as one user mentioned - for the moment we may have to live with restarts to fix it. I am still eager to learn other effective responses to this unwanted action menu popping up instead of opening an app.

Let's start off by checking the helpful steps in this article which can help with this issue: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support. You have followed step 2 already, but try the others as they might help to resolve this:


"1. Close and reopen the app

Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

 

2. Restart your device

Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

 

3. Check for updates

To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

 

4. Delete the app, then redownload it

Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed."
