How to correct autocorrect?

I‘m typing a list for my students in numbers on an ipad air. One of them is named „Jan“ - numbers „detects“ that as a date and insists to correct it to Januar (german january). Autocorrect is turned off on numbers itself as well as the ipad… I wouldn‘t mind to correct it by hand but whenever I try, it reverts back to Januar once I leave the cell. (The list for automatic replacements is completely empty)

Thanks!

You'll have to force it to be text, otherwise Numbers is going to try interpreting it. The easiest thing is to pre-format the cell(s) as text before you type anything into them. A one-at-a-time way to do it is to start with an apostrophe like 'Jan. The apostrophe will go away and the cell will be formatted as text.
