Is their a way to get ride of this multi-task tabs feature on my ipad?

You can either disable just the Recent Apps (the App thumbnails) that you see to the left of the screen - or you can fully disable Stage Manager from iPad Settings:

Settings > Home Screen & Multitasking > Stage Manager





If you just need to return to the normal multitasking interface, you can easily switch-off Stage Manager from the Control Centre:
