Printer Paused Issue

I just installed an Epson ET-4850 today, and the printing tests seemed to be going well. The last item in the list was to update the firmware. I have tried that many times, and it won't complete. It tells me to make sure the the iMac and printer are connected and that the iMac is connected to the network. I think they are. At first the printer was offline. Then I printed a page, and it went into pause mode. And stays there. But the firmware still won't update and appears to me to be the initial cause of this problem. So the problem is circular. I've read about the issue, and some folks say maybe the firmware needs to be updated. But I can't update the firmware, and I don't know if it's because the printer is paused and maybe not legitimately connected because of that. Does anyone have any ideas?

I think unless someone has had this exact problem and solved it you might be best off contacting Epson for help with it. They may be able to help you with flashing the printer. You might need to have a wired connection for that.
