I have been watching BritBox via Apple TV via an Amazon Fire TV connection, but today, when I click on AppleTV i get a blank screen except for a horizontal line near the bottom

Unfortunately, that wasn't the problem. I had tried unplugging the FireTV and plugging it in again then following your previous instructions, but that didn't help. I've just tried again but when I click on the AppleTV icon I just get a blank (black) screen.
There was a recent outage on Apple’s side. It should be solved now. Please try again.
Else contact Apple Support.
Your instructions were perfect: I followed them and was able to watch my program for 2 days. Now I have the same problem and your recommended procedure hasn't solved it.
Then please contact Apple Support for further assistance. They can check things that we do not have access to.
