Swipe back forward in Safari not working iPad + Stage Manager question.

iPad 11” Pro / iOS 16.2

Just got my first iPad. I thought you could swipe the screen to go back or forward to the previous page in Safari (history), but this is not working for me. This gesture basically does nothing on my ipad.

Could this have anything to do with Stage Manager and having it enabled since swiping from left reveals the multitasking bar?

Does Stage Manager have any reasons to not have it enabled always? It’s easy to hide, I don’t see why anyone would want this disabled unless they’re accidentally enabling it constantly.

If you turn Stage Manager off with the steps below, are you able to return to the previous website you were viewing in Safari afterwards?

Turn Stage Manager on or off

1. Swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen to open Control Center.

2. Tap the Stage Manager button .

Are you using Private Browsing in Safari? If so, and you turn it off, does swiping to view the previous website you were on seem to work?

1. Tap the tabs button .

2. Tap Private to show the Tabs Groups list.

3. Tap Tabs at the top of the Tabs Groups list.
