Hey Sam7!
Good question.
You can learn more about that with this link provided by Apple:
Intro to syncing your Mac and your devices - Apple Support
For Mac, it is different than iOS. With iOS devices, you can sync all the same data to iCloud as you can with a Mac.
The difference is:
With an iOS backup, it saves everything that is NOT syncing with iCloud already, (As this data is already synced to iCloud).
As for Mac, if you want to do a full backup of the data that’s NOT already syncing with iCloud, you’d want to set up Time Machine to backup all your other data:
Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support
There are other options, but I, for one, find Time Machine a very reliable backup source.
iCloud is an awesome syncing service, but if you are interested in backing up that data you have in iCloud, in case you’ve deleted or lost some data, you can also keep separate backups of iCloud data:
Archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud - Apple Support
In any case, you can’t go wrong with a backup, or two, or three, with the data that you truly do not want to lose, so, as I know, is important.
Hope that helps!
