M1 Max Startup Options not working

Hi!

I have next problem when I'm trying to open startup options: my computer gets stuck on the language selector, won't continue and starts to lag (response time of keyboard and mouse is around 0.5sec). Is there any other way to solve this than resetting the computer to factory settings and trying again?

I have a new MBP with M1 Max and my suspicions that there's some problem with transferring the data from older MBP (Intel-based with Monterey OS) with Migration assistant.

Here's detailed version how I get the bug:

  • Shut down the computer
  • Holding down power button for 10s and letting go
  • Press "Continue" under the "Options"
  • Language selector is displayed
  • I select language and press right arrow to continue
  • The bug appears

Thanks,

Ilkka

Make sure to disconnect all external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.

You can try to "Revive" the Mac using the instructions in this Apple article (this theoretically should not destroy any data):

Revive or restore a Mac with Apple silicon using Apple Configurator - Apple Support

If this does not work, then you can try the "Restore" option from the same Apple article which will reset the security enclave as well as destroying all data on the internal SSD and pushing a new copy of macOS onto the internal SSD so laptop should be back to factory conditions.
