That’s called passing the buck, or getting you off the phone so the don’t lose points for taking too long on the call. Flash SMS is 100% a carrier issue. How could Apple possibly control someone illegally sending a Flash message to you? Especially when the carrier or an authorized emergency service is the only possible source for Flash messages?

AFAIK, in the U.S. (sorry, that's where I'm assuming you get your service) most carriers do not allow these over their networks unless they generate them themselves for some service alerts to their customers. Regardless, as IdrisSeabright has already mentioned, contacting your cellular service provider would be the first step to try reducing getting them.

If you do reside outside of the U.S., the answer would basically be the same ... contact your provider. Alternately, your iPhone may include settings (depending on your carrier and the version of iOS you are running on it) to disable these messages.

I’ve seen a couple of posts about flash SMS today. I suspect some carrier’s system has been hacked.

They did not give you accurate information. I say this as someone who worked for a major U.S. carrier for 20 years.

Start by contacting your carrier. They are the only ones who can do anything about this.

I was just noticing that as well. Sadly, I think you may be right.
