Focus in workout mode does not work

I have replaced my defective Apple Watch 7 with an Apple Watch 8. On the 7, when I started a workout, the “training” focus automatically started during the workout, and stopped when completing the workout. On the Apple Watch 8, watchOS 9.2, I have the same settings, but the setting that automatically starts the focus is reset to off after setting it. Any idea what is causing this? Or am I missing something?

Yes the Trainen/Fitness is just a language translation.

You seem to have it set up correctly.

Before restoring the phone you could start on the pairing...

First force restart the Watch

i.e. press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.

Then, whilst it is restarting Force Restart the paired iphone   Force restart iPhone – Apple Support (UK)

If it is still misbehaving...

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch

and then

Set up your Apple Watch

If no better you may want to unpair then set up without restoring the backup

You may also want to make sure the software on the watch and iphone  are up to date.

Hi LD150,

Those are the settings I have on my combination too. However, it does not work for me. It does not turn on the focus when the workout is started and furthermore, the focus setting "automatically set when starting a workout" is being reset. Some investigation on this forum turned out that more people are experiencing this. One of them suggested to reset the iphone and re install from a backup. This is a rather rigorous step I am not considering yet... I have attached screenshots of my settings; maybe you can see something that is not correct? BTW images are in Dutch. I do not have a 'Fitness' focus but I do have the 'Trainen' focus.

I have watchOS 9.2 and iOS 16.1.2

Thanks for your reply though, really appreciate!

Regards, Perry

On my combination of iphone and Watch, the Fitness Focus (not training focus) is added and set on the iphone in Settings, Focus

In the Set a Schedule section, "Workout" should be set to "on" ie "turn on automatically."

In the Watxh app, My Watch section, General, Focus it should say "Mirror my iPhone"

When you start a Watch workout (not a thord partyu workout) then the little blue man should appear top right to show the workout is turned on.
