iPad shift + any keys do not work in universal control

Hi,


Using iPadOS 16.2 / Ventura 13.1.


When i control the iPad using the Mac's Keyboard, i found that shift key does not work.


Like shift + 'a', still output as lower case instead of upper case.


or shift + '2' does not give '@' but '2'.


However, if i press shift while still in the MacOS screen, then move the cursor to the iPad, then press 2, it correctly display as '@'


Anyone have this issue?

I discovered the reason!


For anyone who have this issue. The problem is with my Logitech Mouse (M720).


If i have my logitech mouse connected to my Mac.


With full keyboard access disabled - Shift key stop working

With full keyboard access enabled - Tab key stop working.


However if i switched to my old magic mouse. The issue resolves. No need to enable full keyboard access. Everything works perfectly.


Not sure if its Logitech issue.. or Apple issue.


Looks like i have no choice but to go back to my old magic mouse.. or buy a new one..

To help us get a better understanding of the issue, we’d like to ask a few questions.


1. Have you always experienced this behavior with Universal Control, or did this begin recently?

2. If this started recently, were any changes made to your devices or settings before this began?

3. On your iPad, if you go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboards, is "Full Keyboard Access" on or off?


The above details will help us plan how to proceed.

"If you need help


When arranging your displays, if you don't see a display, try these solutions:

  • If using macOS Ventura or later, click the add button (+) in the upper-right corner of the Displays settings window, the choose your iPad or other Mac from the menu.
  • If using macOS Monterey, click the Add Display button the lower-left corner of the Displays settings window, then choose your iPad or other Mac from the menu.
  • Make sure that each device meets the Universal Control system requirements and is using the latest software updates for Mac and software updates for iPad.
  • Make sure that your devices are near each other—ideally within 1 meter (3 feet).
  • Put your devices to sleep, then wake them up.
  • Turn off Universal Control on each device, then restart each device and turn Universal Control back on."

Hi Brittany,


Thanks too much for the help.


  1. Recently i believe. But i cannot pinpoint the exact version that have this changes.
  2. No major changes was made, it just happened one day.
  3. Yes. Check the hardware keyboard resolves the shift issue! However, tab stop working, plus there is the irritating white box outline on the UI.


I have to go into Accessibility -> Keyboards -> Commands, remove all the keyboard shortcuts.. And still tab is not working.


Basically i use terminal commands on the iPad, thus i usually need tab key to auto-complete commands.
