Turbo Tax 2022 requires keychain access to access the file menu

Should I be concerned about granting TurboTax access to Keychain? This seems like a big security hole.

There are several reasons this can happen. This does not involve providing Intuit access to all your passwords stored in the Keychain! However one reason this can happen is that if you save your return as "encrypted" as recommended by TurboTax (Intuit), the return is stored on the Intuit servers and requires verification of who you are before it allows you to access it. The encryption key is in your Keychain, hence the request to unlock your Keychain to allow it to be retrieved. This ensures that only you are being permitted to access the tax information. This is not a bad thing and it is not a security hole.

There are other reasons this can happen, depending on how your Mac is configured, but the above is a common one.

The following was published by Intuit in their forums as addressing a situation where this pop up message occurred repeatedly (I have not tried this because I don't get that pop up myself, but my return is stored locally on my Mac, not on Intuit's servers, so I don't need to enter any type of password to access my return):

REBOOT

Start ttax

enter screensaver/user_login password

and indicate "always allow" access to keychain
