Best Apple Watch strap for surfing?

I’ve been using the standard sports band to surf with for the past two years with no issues, but yesterday on a particularly violent wipeout my strap must have came undone. Looking for recommendations from fellow surfers as to which straps they prefer. I surf on the North Shore of Oahu so it’d need to be something tested in heavy surf.

If as your tag line suggests, you are taking quite a risk using an Apple Watch SE surfing. From Apple's own link on Water and Splash resistance of Apple Watch is the following:

"Apple Watch Series 2 and later can be used for shallow-water activities like swimming in a pool or ocean, but you shouldn't use models other than Apple Watch Ultra for diving, water skiing, or other activities involving submersion below shallow depth or high-velocity water."

Surfing is most assuredly exposing your watch to high-velocity water and should it become damaged from this activity, it won't be covered under warranty at all.

I would highly recommend you consider getting the Apple Watch Ultra, which is the ONLY Apple Watch which is purpose built for such activities as this. And you can choose the Ocean Band with the Ultra, which would be ideal for what you need.

Activities are built into WatchOS and appear on ALL watch models. That doesn't mean its advisable to do the activity on Apple Watch SE. I would NOT surf with an Apple Watch SE. It's the least expensive of the Apple Watches and Apple specifically advises as I posted above that activities involving submersion below shallow depth or high-velocity water, is suitable for Apple Watch Ultra only.

Your watch, your choice. But if your watch is damaged from this activity, you'll be investing in a new watch.
