iPhone 14 with iOS 16.1- Maps. Spoken directions quit with settings.

When in turn-by-turn spoken direction (turn-by-turn, with settings selected to pause podcast or book spoke audio when in Maps Navigation, the spoken directions quit, too. The expectation is that the spoke audio being listened to would quit and it does. However no spoken direction are heard when that happens, so everything is mute.

Here's what I tried so far. This happens either with BT connectivity to the car audio or wired connections.
The happened in previous iPhones. Also with previous iOS starting roughly at iOS 14.
Happens in multiple cars only with Bluetooth, not in CarPlay.
Happens at ALL setting of the volume screen button in Maps.
Does NOT happen when the option is OFF.

I will start a case on this with Apple Support. Previous complaint yielded no resolution to the issue and apparently it was never followed up although I have seen other similar reports here in this forum.

First, ensure you have a backup: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Then, ensure you are updated to iOS 16.2: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
