iPad 2 running out of storage

Maybe some one can help.

iPad 2

Model: A1395 - 16 GB

iOS: 9.3.5

I am using the iPad constantly for quite a while - years - for streaming radio music and as a wake up timer.

Within the last couple of weeks I got several times a message that the iPad is running out of storage. I did not add any app or data.

To free up some storage, I deleted the music library and other smaller apps, but the message still occured after a while and occurs again.

I do not know for what that storage is being used.

Does any one has an idea how to fix that issue ?

Best regards

Hello CAAN,

So based off the images you included, it looks like you're already in the right place to see what storage is being used. In Settings > General > iPad Storage, that list of applications is showing what storage amount each application is using. It also looks like this is a very low storage capacity device, so the storage will fill up very quickly.

There is no way to add more storage to the device, the only option would be to continue deleting things from the device until you reach the amount of available storage you desire. For optimal performance, you should always have at least 1 GB of storage space available.

How to check the storage on your iPhone and iPad

Cheers!

Thank you for your response.

Adding up the amount of storage used by the apps on the list the space occupied is far away from about 12GB.

I connect the iPad to a Mac running a newer macOS with iPad management using the finder. The storage indicator showed that more than 10 GB were used by "other". On "other" I could not get a grip on.

So finally I did a reset (erase all content and setting), which is basically a new setup.

Now the iPad is operating as it should, but I lost some apps because they are no longer in the app store available for download. These apps are still in the backup, but doing a restore would result in the running out off storage issue.

The problem is solved but in a not satisfying way like a computer is no longer responding so the power connection has to be interrupted.

Hello CAAN,

It sounds like you've taken steps to restore the iPad back to factory settings and erase all contents and settings to solve this issue with your iPad storage. While this wouldn't be the path we'd recommend this early in the troubleshooting process, we're happy to hear you have found a solution to the problem.

If needed, you're welcome to create another post for future issues.

Wishing you well, take care.
