Poor quality photos on iPhone 14 pro max

I’ve only had the 14Pro Max for 2 weeks after upgrading from the 11 Pro Max..

I shoot full time and all my videos are taken with the 14.

The good: better macro capabilities, low-light is exceptional, better zoom range and a larger sensor with higher resolution.

The bad: comparing my 14 spots to the 11, I feel that the images in standard mode are way over processed, over saturated, too contrasty, oversharpened and worst - very artificial looking. When zooming Into the images, they look over processed and pixelated to the point of being an eye sore.

And although the camera on the 11Pro Max had its limited with technical features and specs on paper, real world images were more pleasant to the eyes and natural looking. Sharpness, contrast and color were closer to my dslr.

Ad an iPhone user since 2008, I feel that apple has taken the path towards improved specs on paper but something is missing. My settings are the same as before and unless there is something that I’ve overlooked, I am very in finding out what that could be and if anybody noticed similar issues. After all, imho, the most important singular technical aspect of the modern phone.

It’s a bug. Because the iPhone 14 pro now has a 48mp main camera, the developers now have to optimize the camera app to take full advantage of its capabilities, and also adjust the computer algorithm that automatically makes your photos look better than what they were shot at. Should be fixed by now.

Agreed! I was really excited to finally upgrade to the 14 Pro from the XS, on large for the camera. But I'm finding myself disappointed and have at times, fallen back to using the iPhoneXS.

The iPhone 14 Pro camera desaturates the colours, overly colour corrects to the point it looks horrible, and when used in apps like instagram, the camera is glitchy, and heavily pixelated. It's disappointing, considering the price and how Apple keeps boasting about the camera quality.

Very disappointed with the camera. It is very bad at focusing on close up detail. Going through the hastle and cost of upgrading for lesser quality performance is unacceptable and causes customers to have to down grade or upgrade. I found that using 4k and starting with .5 zoom helps a lot but customers shouldn't have to go through such pains to have a decent quality photo that's supposed to be an upgrade

I found that taking a screenshot of the camera app (power+vol up buttons) some times give more natural colors than taking the actual photo in the app. Essentially skipping all the terrible post processing and HDR steps. But you also lose the full resolution so maybe not very useful 😂 Can turn of the grid in the main camera settings.

It all started with the iph 13 series and Apple made it worse with the 14s. The camera hardware is top notch, but the software behind it is poorly executed, worse than a midrange droid phone. Users have been complaining since 13 series came out without any fix in place. Perhaps Apple is not capable to producing a $1000+ phone value camera experience or they simply don't care.

Been using it for 6 months and can sadly agree. Some shots are good but most are not. I've been a DSLR photographer for 20 years so I know when colors are bad. What specifically annoys me is that the "photo" looks good before I take the shot. The colors are natural. I take the shot and it still looks good for a fraction of a second until the post processing kicks in and destroys it with too much sharpness, clarity and "HDR" or whatever it is. I can't put my finger on why it looks so bad. It's not just saturation and contrast because I can't even make it good by adjusting it. Usually change the clarity down to -50 which makes it better but it still does not fix the destroyed colors.

For a phone that costs a small fortune, it's not ok to not be able to at least turn off the bad post processing. This MUST be possible to fix by software.

Me too! I bought an IPhone 14 Pro Max for my trip to Hawaii and I tried to print photos and they are horrible quality. IDK why a camera with 48 megapixels can't take print quality photos. I am only trying to do 4x6 OR 5x7!

My 14 pro max was a 3 year wait but it takes terrible moon shots no matter how many adjustments I make and some of the recommendations were from Apple Pro’s and they don’t work . I can look at the moon with more clarity than the camera* factor of 5* The rating for the rest of the phone rates a 10+…. excellent.

Hi I have purchased IPhone 14plus approx 1L rs but yet photo quality is worst on my previous phone MI 10I I am really very unsatisfactory with iPhone on high value investment but there is not Quality satisfaction with iPhone 14Plus kindly help and suggest

Apple is in the slums with their photo quality. Every photo highlights every blemish. Google and Samsung phones 100% have much better quality photos. Do not switch to the 14 if you are hoping for even fair photos.

Worst photos ever! I can’t even take a random shot to capture a moment because they are blurry. Forget taking a video I can’t do that cause whole sections are blurry. This phone is the pits. I want a refund!!!

FIXED? NO ITS NOT. WE’RE ABOUT 6 MONTHS IN INTO THE IPHONE 14 AND THE VIDEO AND PICTURE QUALITY IS THE WORST. I’ve never been so disappointed with an Apple product before, and especially with an iPhone. My previous iPhone XR takes better pictures and videos than my 14 Pro by far!!!! It’s unacceptable that I paid $1,000+ for an iPhone that gives me inferior results than a $800 5 year old iPhone!!! And Apple remains silent on it and it’s authorized and trained representatives knows anything about it and how to fix it.

Grainy, overpixelated and horrible pictures and 4K videos. A camera that unfocus at the worst moment possible. And that’s just a few of the list. My 5C, 7, and XR doesn’t do this.

And I’ll say it again, very dissappointed with the 14 Pro and bet the “fix” if they ever do it will feature it as a “new groundbreaking feature that will redefine how we take pictures with a phone” only for the iPhone 15 Pro and up!!!
