Lightning EarPods need Bluetooth and have extremely loud volume

Hello,

my lightning EarPods need Bluetooth to play sounds. Every time I want to use my

earphones I need to connect it to Bluetooth despite it being plugged into my

phone. I'm using iPhone SE 2022 MMXF3PM/A with iOS 16.2. My earphones buzz and

there's a lot of static when idle, once I start to play sounds the interference

disappears and sound quality is OK. The sounds are at extremely high volume

even when put on lowest settings.

Please help me troubleshoot this issue.

iPhone SE, iOS 16

Hi weronika103,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with your wired EarPods. We'd like to help.

It would not be expected to have to enable Bluetooth to use your EarPods. Let's try to isolate this issue a bit more.

Have you tried another pair of EarPods with a lightning connector? This can tell us if the issue is with the EarPods or the Lightning port. Do you have any issues with charging through this port?

Then, we'd like you to take a look at these steps to see if they help:

If your headphones don't work with your iPhone or iPad

Get help when you can’t hear sound from your headphones, the sound is muffled, or your microphone doesn't work.

Update and restart your iPhone or iPad

Make sure that your iPhone or iPad has the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. Then restart your iPhone or restart your iPad.

If your headphones still aren't working, follow the steps below for your issue.

Check for debris, damage, or loose connections

1. Check for debris in the headphone port on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Check your headphone cable, connector, remote, and earbuds for damage, like wear or breakage.
3. Look for debris on the meshes in each earbud. To remove debris, gently brush all openings with a small, soft-bristled brush that's clean and dry.
4. Firmly plug your headphones back in. If your iPhone or iPad has a case, you might need to remove the case to get a firm connection.

Let us know if that helps.

Cheers!
