Iphone 15 Bluetooth Airpods Sound Goes Robotic

Hi,

I recently upgraded my iphone 11 to iphone 15. Even since then, my airpods have had connection issues. Issues such as showing connected but the sound is still on the device not the airpods. Also, sound when connected on phone calls goes randomly robotic and I cannot understand the caller.

What I have done:

Confirmed Iphone is on the latest update (iOS 17.0.2 as of this post)
Turned Bluetooth off/on
"forgot" my device (airpods) and reinstalled
turned phone off and back on

I have searched the community but have not seen any suggestions for fixing this. Thoughts?

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. You've done an excellent job with troubleshooting the connectivity for your AirPods. There is a recent update available for your iPhone in which we suggest to update the software to iOS 17.0.3. This is a step that may help with the connection to your AirPods. If needed, here's how to update the software:

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.

2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.

3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.

4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.
