iPhone refuses to connect to AirPods

Every time I take my AirPods out of the case it starts to lag my phone, while at the same time my phone refuses to redirect my audio to the AirPods and making my phone lag. Sometimes if I take the right AirPod out first it tends to connect but never if done the other way around, I’ve updated my phone many times as well as reset my devices Bluetooth settings. The only time my AirPods connect is when I power my phone off and then power on while pressing the button on the AirPod at the same time, any help with this situation would be wonderful as it’s irritating.

iPhone 14 Plus, iOS 18

Have you reset the AirPods to see if the issues are persisting?

  1. ut your AirPods in their charging case, close the lid and wait 30 seconds.
  2. On an iPhone or iPad that's paired with your AirPods, go to Settings > Bluetooth:
    • If your AirPods appear in the My Devices list, tap the More Info button next to your AirPods, tap Forget This Device, then tap again to confirm.
    • If your AirPods don't appear in the list, continue to the next step.
  1. Open the lid of your charging case.
  2. Depending on which AirPods you have, press the setup button on the back of your case or tap the front of the case:

AirPods 1, AirPods 2, AirPods 3 or AirPods Pro

Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white. You can now reconnect your AirPods.

If the status light still doesn't flash white, learn what to do.
