Air drop not working

I have just updated my iMac 5k 27" late 2015 to Monterey and now Air Drop has been unreliable to my iPhone 12, 16.2 iOS.

I can send pictures to my iMac from the iPhone and I can Air Drop a Safari page back to the iPhone. I can send pictures to the iPhone if I re-start the iMac and then don't do anything else except send the photo's. If I do use the computer then it still 'see's' the iPhone, and it makes the received beep but the iMac says failed to send :(

I've tried with just contacts and with it set to Everyone (on both devices) with no luck. It used to work every time before . . .

Hello Michael,

To help isolate the behavior you're experiencing we recommend using safe mode on your Mac. "Safe mode is particularly useful when you're trying to resolve an issue that doesn't seem to be associated with using any particular app."

"Intel processor

Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window."
