27" Cinema Display
Looks like this is an old post, but just in case Apple is reading this...
I'm glad other professionals are speaking up on a demand for matte screens. I'm thinking of using my old iMac 24" in Target Display Mode... but I loose access to usb... kind of lame. And I imagine that it may use up a bit more power because it has to run the Mac OS during TDM.
I'm looking into purchasing a Dell/ NEC/ or an Eizo ColorEdge monitor as an alternative. I hope Apple surprises us with a new line of monitors without the distracting reflection before I make my purchase... I'll keep my fingers crossed.
We have the new iMac now. It is a huge improvement. It seems that there are two issues: the ergonomics and what pro's (photographers, print) need for color reproduction. The first one is solved for me. The glare reduction is on the iMac is so good that it is no longer a reason not to buy a new iMac.
I can't say that glare it is 100% gone. If I sit with a bright white shirt behind the iMac While the sun is illuminating me through the window, I still see some glare. But in those conditions, the image quality on my old (mate) cinema display would also suffer quite bit. Under normal circumstances I forget about any reflections.
It would be logical if Apple would come up with a similar cinema display.
I do not know if this solves problem's for all pro users. (Probably not ;-). Would love to read your thoughts on this.
I think it is a matter of cost for Apple, it seems it is cheaper to produce the glossy screen than it is to to produce the matted version. Apple needs to keep it's profit margin (of a 30% markup from what I have read) and they can not compete with the Win/Linux side of the market, since they barely do now if they want to keep their margin.
Your only choice will be to buy your Mac if you like the configuration of a particular model and then buy a separete monitor, I usually buy Dell; their monitors are good, reliable, and obviouly cheaper then Apples. I just wonder if there is a way to turn off the monitor on the iMac and only use the external monitor?
