Per Brother's Support Website:

"We don't have plans to release official drivers or software for your model on macOS 12. "

Brother - HL4070CDW Support

Brother - MacOS 12 Monterey - Support

Very many printer drivers are included in the macOS.

There are also third party drivers available.

AirPrint may be an option.

The specifications (https://support.brother.com/g/b/spec.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hl4070cdw_all) for the HL-4070CDW model indicate PCL6 and BR-Script3 (PS3) emulation. This means that you could at least try a generic PCL or postscript printer driver. See also the Add a network printer by specifying its IP address section in Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac – Apple Support (UK) (specifically, Use).

Since the HL-4070CDW has Ethernet in addition to Wi-Fi, you could choose to wire it to one of the LAN ports of a Wi-Fi router instead of using a wireless printer connection. Ethernet is often more stable, and eliminates difficulties related to Wi-Fi security settings, etc.

Yes, it's probably the printer.

Brother released that printer in 2008. The printer drivers are probably 32-bit versions. Those 32-bit drivers worked with the Mac OS X software of the time, but since 10.15 Catalina they are no longer compatible with the macOS that now supports only 64-bit software.

If Brother did not update their drivers to 64-bit versions, then some or all the features of that printer may be lost, even though Apple includes many printer drivers in the macOS itself.

I suggested AirPrint earlier, but the age of the printer may disqualify that option.
