Print Queue error "Encryption credentials have expired."

Out of the blue yesterday the print queue for one of the HP printers in my office stopped processing jobs and gives the error "Encryption credentials have expired." I can still print to the printer from my iPhone, and I can still print to other printers in the office from this computer. The printer is connected via WiFi, and frustratingly I can still operate the scanner on it remotely, and see things like supply levels, I just can't print.

Here's everything I've tried without success:

  • Restarted the computer, printer, and router.
  • "Reset printing system" in the printer settings pane, and re-added the printer the automatic way, and manually using its IP address and AirPrint.
  • Deleted the "Printers" folders inside of User/Library and Macintosh HD/Library
  • Went to the printer's embedded web server and had it create a new self-signed certificate.
  • Checked that the printer's firmware is current.

I've even tried all of the above together at once. I've tried every solution from every search result I've found so far, and I'm out of ideas.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the link. I'd already seen that page and tried most everything on it.

Today I came in though and the printer just worked again without me having done anything new. Odd.

Good that it’s started working.

Regenerating the self-signed digital certificates within the printer will typically clear this issue.

Encryption expired How do I upgrade this - Apple Community

How to reset the network settings in the printer varies by vendor and model.

The above also links to info by Epson and HP for some specific models of printers.
