What is your model Apple TV? Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support

What is (was) your model remote? Identify your Apple TV remote - Apple Support

The Siri Remote works with bluetooth for navigation commands, and works with IR for volume control (unless your AV receiver supports CEC Volume Control). Bluetooth is susceptible to interference, much like Wi-Fi. IR requires line-of-sight from emitter to receptor.

The Siri Remote can get damaged from e.g. dropping on hard surfaces, which might affect functionality. You would be in the best position to know if that may have happened. My Siri Remote would easily control (pause-play) from distances up to 23ft through two walls. It doesn't disconnect for me.

The Remote app in the App Store for iPhone and iPad was discontinued some years ago, in favor of the new version in Control Center, also working over Wi-Fi. Set up the Apple TV Remote on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

The connection should be steady and immediate when you have a strong Wi-Fi network with little or no interference. Is the router or access point or mesh node in the same room? Do each of the devices have a strong Wi-Fi connection?
