Recover files from an iPhone backup on my Mac

iPhone Backups are encrypted. But there is no way to "look" into them, even if I know the password.

How do I recover a single file from a backup?

How can I recover files from a backup if I don't have the/an iPhone any more?

How can I recover files from a backup if I don't want to overwrite everything on my iPhone?

iMac 21.5″ 4K

Correct.

How do I recover a single file from a backup?

You cannot. You can only restore the entire backup of the device.

ow can I recover files from a backup if I don't have the/an iPhone any more?

You cannot. The backup is a device backup, you can only restore it to a new device.

ow can I recover files from a backup if I don't want to overwrite everything on my iPhone?

You cannot. Restoring a backup is all or nothing.
