What is this 15GB of Safari's "Documents & Data"?

I was just going through my iPhone Storage and found that Safari is taking up a significant amount of storage. So, I deleted the website data, cleared history and all. Still, there is about 15.04GB of data under “Documents & Data”.

Wanted to know, what is this? And how to get rid of this?

We appreciate you letting us know, Journal_Bug,

We understand that you're unable to delete the documents and data from Safari as it's part of the iOS. From the article "How to check the storage on your iPhone and iPad - Apple Support", your cached files will be deleted by the iOS once more storage is needed.

If you want to remove this data, you can back up your iPhone then restore the iOS using a computer to remove the data currently stored in Safari and reinstall the iOS itself.

If you need help to back up your iPhone, you can follow the steps outlined here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

This resource explains how to restore your iPhone via a computer in order to clear the storage used by Safari: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

"Restore your device from a backup on your computer

  1. On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, open the Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes.
  2. Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable. If a message asks for your device passcode or to Trust This Computer, follow the onscreen steps. Get help if you forgot your passcode.
  3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in the Finder window or iTunes. Learn what to do if your device doesn't appear.

4. Select Restore Backup. Learn what to do if a message says that your device's software is too old

5. Look at the date of each backup and pick the most relevant.

6. Click Restore and wait for the restore to finish. If asked, enter the password for your encrypted backup.

7. Keep your device connected after it restarts and wait for it to sync with your computer. You can disconnect after the sync finishes."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

Greetings Journal_Bug,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Per the Apple Support article:

"Documents & Data: Safari Offline Reading List, files stored within installed apps, and app content like contacts, calendars, messages, and emails (and their attachments)."

You can find the steps to manage your internal device storage here: How to check the storage on your iPhone and iPad - Apple Support

Use your device to check its storage
1. Go to Settings > General > [Device] Storage. You might see a list of recommendations for optimizing your device's storage, followed by a list of installed apps and the amount of storage each one uses.
2. Tap an app's name for more information about its storage. Cached data and temporary data might not be counted as usage.
In the detailed view you can:
Offload the app, which frees up storage used by the app, but keeps its documents and data.
Delete the app, which removes the app and its related data.
Depending on the app, you might be able to delete some of its documents and data.

Use the Finder or iTunes to check the storage on your iOS device
1. On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, open the Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes.
2. Connect your device to your computer.
3. Select your device in the Finder or in iTunes. You'll see a bar that shows how much storage your content uses, divided by content type.
4. Move your mouse over the bar to see how much storage each content type is using.

We hope this helps you.

Best regards!
