Ventura MacMail and Gmail

My gmail account has not been working properly since I upgraded to Ventura. This morning I removed the Gmail account. it won't now let me add it again. When I try to do it, it says the account name and password are not verified. But I can sign in the Google Webmail with the name and password. Anyone any ideas?
