International dual SIM iPhone 14 Pro

I have an unlocked iPhone 14Pro. I have a US number on it. I am going out of the US for a year to South Africa. Can I have a US phone plan and a South Africa phone plan on this phone. I understand I will have two phone numbers one which will be a South Africa phone number and my original US phone number. I have been told that if I have my phone outside of the US for longer than 3 months, the carrier will cancel my plan and my US number. I don’t understand this as I would be paying for the US plan monthly via auto payment from my US bank account. I am trying to make sure people in US can reach me via voice mail or text even if my US phone number is not connected or is not in cellular range. What happens now is every time I leave the country and my phone is on airplane mode and I am not on Wi-Fi, the US caller gets a message saying the phone number is not available and gives the impression the number is no longer in service.

What is the best, most inexpensive way to deal with this situation please.

Thank you.

Hello Suethevet,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

We understand you're looking for details to help with traveling and using your iPhone 14 Pro, right?

If we have that correct, the following resource includes details to help with planning this. We'll include some details to get you started below, and you can review the remaining information here: Use eSIM while traveling internationally with your iPhone - Apple Support

Learn about the benefits of traveling with eSIM

eSIM offers many benefits while you travel abroad. It's more secure than a physical SIM because it can't be removed if your iPhone is lost or stolen. With eSIM, you don't need to obtain, carry, and swap physical SIM cards (which can also be lost), or wait for them to arrive by mail.

On your iPhone, you can store eight or more eSIMs, which will be there whenever you need them. You can have two eSIMs active on supported iPhone models at the same time. This could, for example, include one eSIM for your home and another eSIM for the place you're visiting. You can swap which of your stored eSIMs are active simply by changing your selections in Settings. This might be helpful if you travel regularly to the same places.

Your carrier might also offer the ability to manage your eSIM plan digitally and add more data as needed.

As for the details related to your current carrier, we'd recommend working directly with them to check into the options available while traveling.

Have a great day!
