That will depend on the pad and where the coils are on it.
Yes, the iPhone has the Qi charging coils in the middle of the back plate.
As long as the iPhone connects the the pad and begins charging, it is fine, you don't need to get it dead center.
The Magsafe charging pads will automatically connect to the correct location.
