talk to text - mic doesn't turn off

I just got an iPhone SE. I had an iPhone 8.

Now, when I hit the mic to dictate a text, and stop talking, the mic does not turn off. It stays on until I physically turn it off.

Up until now, on every iPhone I used, the mic would turn off as soon as I stopped talking. In fact, if I did not talk fast enough, it would shut off before I was ready.

I do not like it this way. Is there a way to change it back?

Also, this phone gets what I say wrong just about every time I use it.

There is not a way to change the amount of time before dictation stops automatically. You can let Apple know your feedback about this feature here: Product Feedback - Apple.

Hello scutarius,

Dictation is a little different on newer operating systems than it has been in the past. Per Dictate text on iPhone - Apple Support, "When you use on-device Dictation, you can dictate text of any length without a timeout. You can stop Dictation manually, or it stops automatically when you stop speaking for 30 seconds."

When you say it's getting things wrong, do you see it auto-correcting words that you say to something else? Or was a different behavior occurring?

Is there a way to shorten the time before Dictation will automatically stop? 30 seconds is a very long time, especially when it now pics up other near-by people speaking.

I have to say, I thought it was just fine before. This way is frustrating and less useful for me.

As far as it getting tings wrong, it often just does not type what I said. I rarely ever had problems with that before.
