Air Tags on my US and EU phones - same Apple ID

Hi - I have an EU phone for when I'm in the EU, and a US phone for when I'm in the U.S. Both are linked to my own Apple ID. I get that an AirTag can only be linked to one Apple ID, but is there a way to sync between two phones with the SAME Apple ID -- i.e., so I don't have to use my U.S. phone (with roaming charges) to track luggage in the EU, and vice versa? Thanks for any info.

Hi - I have two IPhones. One has an EU number, and I use it in the EU. One has a US number, and I use it in the US.

I have ONLY one Apple ID, and ONLY one ICloud Account.

BOTH phones are in my name, and are on the same Apple ID -- i.e., if I take a photo on one, it will sync to the other via ICloud. Nobody but me uses either phone, so it's not the same situation as the questions above.

I just bought the AirTags to try out on 2 items of luggage for a trip.

I was in the EU as the time, so I activated them to my EU IPhone. I checked the location from time to time - just learning how to use it.

I arrived back in the US, where I use my US IPhone. SAME Apple ID as the other one. I tried to locate the bags at baggage claim (again - they weren't lost -- I was just training myself in how to use them). They didn't show up on the U.S. Phone. I turned on my EU phone, and they showed up (along with a roaming charge).

Other things, like ITunes, Photos, etc. sync between these 2 devices. My question is why I can't seem to use my US phone with the tags, even though the US phone is on the same Apple ID as my EU phone.

Thanks for any help! :)

Hello GinnyHench,

To clarify based on your question, the AirTag is tied to the Apple ID used to set it up. So long as both of your iPhones are logged in to that same Apple ID, then the AirTag can be found through Find My on either iPhone. More info on finding AirTags can be found at: Locate an AirTag or other item in Find My on iPhone – Apple Support

Thanks!

Hello GinnyHench,

We're a bit confused by your question, so we wanted to gain some more clarity.

You mentioned that these two devices are linked to your own Apple ID, but you want to know if there is a way to sync these two iPhones with the same Apple ID? You'd want to be using the same iCloud account. You can check if you're using the same iCloud account in:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on [Name]
  3. Tap on iCloud

Which iCloud account is signed in on these devices? The same iCloud account or are they different? And what happens when you use the Find My app exactly? Are you unable to see these AirTags? As this information will assist us as we move forward.

Hoping to hear back, take care.

K_Faith - Sorry, but I'm asking how to do a specific task, and am still hoping for an answer as to how to do it (or at least an explanation as to why not, if I can't). I didn't ask to leave feedback, so, while I appreciate your taking the time to respond, your answer, unfortunately, doesn't address my question. Thanks for trying to respond, though.
