iPad power issues

We have many iPads installed in user homes and for some of them we have been experiencing a strange behavior. The iPad screen will go dark and the device will be unresponsive. On our end the device is reporting that it is at 1% battery life but when we service it, all we have to do is unplug the power adapter and then plug it back in and the device will “wake-up” and show 100% battery life.

Here are some additional details on the devices

  • Devices are running iPadOS 15 or above.
  • Devices are 8th, 9th Gen
  • The device is running an app that is always up.
  • The device is managed
  • Screen set to 60% brightness
  • All physical buttons are disabled
  • Using OEM cord and power adapter

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Thanks!

Hey dmbfan77,

Best place to start is making sure all the devices are up-to-date. The latest iPadOS version for the 8th and 9th generation 16.3. If you need assistance with backing up and/or updating the iPads, follow the steps below, or click here: Update your iPhone or iPad.

  1. "Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

If you continue to notice the issue on multiple iPads, contact Apple Support here: Get Support.

Take care.
