home sharing won't play through bluetooth speakers

I have home sharing set up. I can stream music from my office Mac to my MacBook, and all works perfectly. When I connect the MacBook to bluetooth speakers the audio stops. Music looks like it is trying to play as there is the animation next to the current track, but the time does not count up and no audio. If I play some other app like Spotify, it plays through the bluetooth speakers just fine. What is going on please?

Hi there Mark Fleming,

Thank you for posting to Apple Support Communities.

Home Sharing is a great feature that can be used to share, stream, and import media from up to five computers that are connected to your home Wi-Fi network.

Are both the Macs up-to-date? Make sure that both are updated to the latest versions of macOS: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

Additionally, since this has happened, we recommend restarting both Macs as well as that is a great troubleshooting step.

We also suggest removing your Bluetooth speakers and pair them again with the Mac: Connect a Bluetooth device with your Mac - Apple Support

Otherwise, be sure you are following the steps in the Home Sharing article and that the requirements are met: Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices - Apple Support

Let us know how it goes.

Take care.
