Photo not exporting slideshow music

I created a slideshow in Photo from my library. I used the classic slides and classic music. I have 105 photos. The photos process and the music plays in the preview but not when I export the slideshow to my desktop. In fact, there's no sound. Ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply but no, I'm not trying to move music from my Itunes. I'm trying to just use the "classic" slide show with the "classic" music that comes with that. I have 113 slides with several short videos I took with my phone over the holidays. I think the whole thing is under 6 minutes. I've made many videos before but perhaps not as many slides or videos. Thing is, I can play the preview and it work fine - it's the exporting to my desktop that isn't working. Get's held up towards the end then says Photo has unexpectedly quit.

Hey Lmankoff,

Thanks for the update. This article has more information on exporting slideshows on the Mac.

"You can export slideshows to share with others. When you export a slideshow, Photos creates a movie file with the video format that you select.

  1. In the Photos app  on your Mac, click a slideshow under Projects in the sidebar.
  2. Click Export in the toolbar, or choose File > Export > Export Slideshow.
  3. Enter a filename for your slideshow movie in the Save As field.
  4. Click the Format pop-up menu and choose a file type for the exported movie.
  5. Standard definition (480p) is good for standard-definition TV. If the slideshow will play on a high-definition TV or display, choose one of the high-definition formats: 720p or 1080p.
  6. Choose where to save the exported slideshow movie, then click Save."

Let's get a little more information to help narrow this down.

Is the export freezing, or is the slideshow freezing?

If you choose a different file type or definition, will it still freeze?

Do you have other options of the location to export to?

Keep us posted.

Hi Mario,

It freezes during the export process. The slideshow itself works great in the Preview - "classic" music and all transitions. I've tried different themes, no luck, I've tried different definitions, no luck and I've tried to save it to an 8 gig thumb drive and to my external hard drive. Here are some screen shots... thanks for your patience - all of you :)

Hey Lmankoff,

What is the source of your music? If it is an Apple Music subscription, then songs can't be exported due to DRM protection. Also, if the songs purchased from Apple Music while the songs were still protected, it can't be used.

You can use any song ripped from a CD or purchased since DRM was no longer applied.

Let us know if this helps!

Best regards.

Hi Lmankoff,

We appreciate the follow-up! To double-check one possibly relevant detail, you mentioned you've tried exporting to both an external hard drive and a thumb drive. Did you also try exporting directly to a folder on your Mac mini internal hard drive? We want to verify that to make sure we've covered everything possible.

If you get the same result when exporting to your internal drive as well, we recommend using the following link to get in touch with us directly for further assistance: Apple Support

Kind regards.
