Apple Pencil gen 2 Vertical ‘no draw zone’ on iPad

There is a vertical area in my ipad 3rd generation where the Apple Pencil 2nd generation will not draw. When I draw horizontal lines (landscape mode) the pencil skips over this area. If I go back and intentionally draw in the area it will sometimes work. I have no issue drawing with my finger. I’ve recorded this in the attached video of the defect.

How can I correct this?

To my knowledge the iPad has not been abused. I’ve tried un pairing the pen and pairing again.

thank you for any help.

If the Pencil is consistently not recognised within a band of the screen, you have a screen hardware fault. Replacing the Pencil tip will not resolve this issue.

As your iPad will require repair, you would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad and Pencil - and you can explore your available options:

Hi ––,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that your Apple Pencil isn't drawing in a specific area of the screen, but the screen works when you draw with your finger.

This typically happens due to an issue with the Apple Pencil tip. You can remove and replace the tip to ensure it's seated properly, or you can replace the tip with a new Apple Pencil tip. You can learn more here: Use Apple Pencil with your iPad - Apple Support

"Learn more

  • If your Apple Pencil isn't drawing as expected, make sure that its tip isn't loose. If it is, twist it to the right to tighten it.
  • Use Markup in apps like Mail, Messages, and Photos to add drawings, text, and shapes with your iPad and Apple Pencil. For example, you can add a signature to a PDF.
  • Learn how to create an instant note from the Lock screen or pick up where you left off on your last note."

Take care!
