Maps different on different devices

I have an iPad Air 5th generation, a iPad mini 6th generation and an iPhone 14 all using the latest software. However, the maps app works differently in the mini from the other two devices. On the iPad and iPhone when I select a route between two points it shows a box at the top that has the origin, destination and a line for add a stop. It’s relatively easy to drop a pin on a road off route then add it to the itinerary and reorder the points therefore modifying the route. Not so on the mini. It has an add a stop option but only offers a limited number of possibilities such as gas stations, restaurants and the like. No dropped pin option or write in ability such as a city. In fact I can’t put in dropped pins at all. When I touch and hold a point nothing happens. This is a relatively easy way to modify a routs and I’d like it on the mini. What can I do?

Hi neoflyer,

You'll need to have an iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular to add stops on the way to your destination in Maps.

If your iPad mini is a Wi-Fi + Cellular model you can do the following:

1. Tap the route card at the bottom of the screen.
2. Tap Add Stop, then use the search field or a recent search result to find and select a place to stop.
3. Tap Add (in the list of search results) or Add Stop (in the place card for a search result).
Your directions are rerouted to take you to the stop next.
4. While on your route, you can do the following:
Remove the stop: Tap the route card at the bottom of the screen, then tap the Delete button next to the stop.
Pause directions when you stop: Tap Pause Route; when you get back on the road, tap Resume Route.
