Apple Classroom with shared Macs

I have Macs in my classroom and all of them use the same generic userid (Student) and same password to sign on. I am trying to add students to my Apple Classroom.

On the student Mac, I am using a custom name which identifies the specific MAC rather than the generic card. I use the code to add the class and I get the "waiting for approval" on the Mac.

On my teacher account, I see the new student with the unique name and can add it. But then in my class list, I always only see one student, with the name "Student".

Does Classroom require a unique Mac login userid for each "student"? What am I doing wrong?

Yes. Each student needs a unique login. Generally, the way this is accomplished is through the use of managed Apple IDs and the creation of classes in Apple School Manager. These are then imported into your MDM so the MDM properly configures the Macs to recognize the logins. Students will be able to select his or her account from the login window to access the devices. The use of managed Apple IDs ensures that teachers have the ability to reset passwords and limits the ID from things like purchasing.

Which MDM are you using to manage the Macs? Some MDMs will allow for (relatively) easy integration of Apple Classroom.

Hope this helps. By the way, Apple has rather good documentation available here: Apple School Manager User Guide - Apple Support
